Carcinoma Gallbladder

Gallbladder cancer is a cancer that starts in the gallbladder, most often in people with a long history of gallstones. It is frequently found late because early symptoms — mild abdominal discomfort, indigestion — closely resemble ordinary gallstone disease.

Symptoms

—Persistent upper-right abdominal pain
—Unexplained weight loss
—Jaundice (yellowing of skin/eyes)
—A palpable lump in the upper abdomen

Dr. Golam Mahmud Rayhan's Approach

Diagnosis by ultrasound, CT/MRI, and tumour markers. Treatment depends on the stage — from extended (radical) cholecystectomy with removal of nearby lymph nodes and part of the liver, to combined surgery with chemotherapy for more advanced disease.

Recovery

Recovery time depends on the extent of surgery — typically 5-10 days in hospital for extended resections, followed by staged recovery and, where needed, adjuvant chemotherapy.
