Cholangiocarcinoma
Cholangiocarcinoma is a cancer of the bile duct — the tube system that carries bile from the liver to the intestine. It can occur inside the liver (intrahepatic) or in the ducts outside the liver (extrahepatic), and often presents with painless jaundice.
Symptoms
Dr. Golam Mahmud Rayhan's Approach
Diagnosis by MRI/MRCP, CT, and tumour markers, sometimes with biopsy via ERCP. Treatment centres on surgical resection of the affected bile duct and, when needed, the adjoining part of the liver, followed by reconstruction of the biliary system. Advanced cases may need combined chemotherapy.
Recovery
Hospital stay is typically 7-10 days depending on the extent of resection, with staged recovery and long-term follow-up to monitor for recurrence.
